FOSSE WAY LEVEL CROSSING

1960 OS map of the area around the level crossing on Fosseway Lane east of Lichfield

The half barrier automatic level crossing taken from the south side in Fosseway Lane, the forlorn looking signal box abandoned at the time of automation

Looking east towards Hammerwich from the middle of the crossing.

Note the darker tarmac where presumably the cabling has been set for the automatic barrier with the second rail clearly removed at the same time making redoubling of the line more expensive upon reopening

Modern OS style map of the same area today note the canal has been filled in and the by-pass around the north of the hamlet of Pipehill

Lookin west back towards Lichfield from the middle of the crossing. Note the fence to try and stop access where the second track was before it became single track in its final years
